Leadership Training
In Christian Surfers, ministry skills are developed in a variety of ways. As a volunteer based organization, much is learnt via `osmosis’ - the gradual transfer of values and skills through interaction with experienced leaders.
A core strategy of CS is to supplement this informal learning with formal training. Christian Surfers has long recognised the need for its leaders to be equipped with standard skills of mission workers, in a way which can be applied effectively with surfers. Training and develoment programs have included formal training based on structured courses and materials, a 3 month full time international leadership training school, and various levels of conference.
Levels of Leadership
CSI’s current training model is based on three levels of training:-
Level 1 Leadership. Entry level training, for induction of new missions and leaders that will cover the basics of CS core values, philosophy and skills. This is the common ground on which all of our missions are based. It is to delivered in a way accessible by the average volunteer leader.
Level 2 Leadership. Managerial training, for the established leader who is at cutting edge of the mission and dealing with local leadership issues.
Level 3 Leadership. Leadership training, for the leader at a regional, national or international level who is carrying the `big picture’ of the mission.
Core Curriculum
- CS foundations - vision, mission, core values, core strategies, structures
- The nature of leadership – development, character, habits of a Godly leader
- Building partnerships – the church and other agencies, shared vision, accountability, authority, expectations.
- Developing a team – community, conflict, Kingdom culture.
- Evangelism content – core elements, developing content, biblical basis
- Evangelism process – contextualization, communication, relationships, stages of response
- CS best practices - structure, systems, legal, finances
- The surfing culture – values, trends, contextualisation, strategic planning
Training Opportunities
2007 will see Level 1 training rolled out globally at regional and national levels. The material is being shaped into a workbook and leadership notes and is to be accessible nationally. Contact your national leader for more information.
