Meet Wes Hewson

 

My name is Wes and I live in Ormond Beach Florida with my wife Carla. Right next to Daytona Beach Florida known as the “World’s Most Famous Beach” and home to the Nascar Daytona 500.

Having been a surfer my entire life I know of the darkness that can be found in the surf culture.  After being baptized and accepting Christ as my personal savior, I became involved with Christian Surfers.  Now my life is centered on spreading the good news to all and especially surfers.

 
 

Regional Coordinator

 

I have taken on the role as a Regional Coordinator for the English-speaking nations of the Caribbean.  My role is to fan out to the Island nations of the Caribbean to help fulfill the Christian Surfers International vision of 100 nations and 1000 mission projects. In 2023 we added Barbados as an affiliated nation.  There is still much work to be done in the English-speaking Island nations of the Caribbean to reach surfers with the good news. I will be visiting and developing relationships with surfers and communities in the Caribbean.

 
 

History with Christian Surfers

I can often be found surfing the beach breaks in the Ormond Beach area.  Notably Ponce Inlet is a great spot on Florida’s East Coast. Having learned of Christian Surfers some 20 years ago I have been involved with the Daytona Beach chapter of Christian Surfers for over 15 years.  During that time, I helped to lead the local Daytona chapter as the role of the Chapter Director.

Throughout the course of many years, we have helped to lead surfers to Christ and had numerous baptisms.  One of the activities was helping to organize, lead and facilitate multiple Spring Fling surf contests. The chapter also participated in other serving opportunities such as giving surf lessons to autistic persons at Surfers for Autism and Paraplegic and Quadriplegic athletes at ‘Oceans of Hope’. My real passion is to connect surfers with Jesus to help bring light into the surf culture.

We are looking to raise USD$15k for two to three trips in 2024 to the Caribbean Islands to build & develop existing relationships and look for more opportunities to develop chapters and Christian Surfers groups, with the aim of discipleship, sharing the gospel and training leaders. Our goal is to have the funds to assist, support and mentor local events, such as Christian Surfer gatherings. 

Another trip is now planned to the Outer Banks North Carolina campout this year too.  This will be a regional gathering for Christian Surfers with leaders and members to fellowship, train, and share mission vision ideas.
