“I was at an international Christian Surfers conference where we had been challenged to seek God about where he wanted us to go, and which tribe he wanted us to reach. In front of me were over 100 surfers from numerous nations lost in worship. Just then BD the founder of our movement came alongside me putting his arm around my shoulder and looking at the crowd he said “This is the pearl of Great Price Roy this is the true treasure in a field” Rarely have I felt Gods Spirit speak so clearly to me as he did at that moment. I knew the surf tribe was the one he wanted me to share his love with, and I have been trying to do that ever since”

Roy was the pioneering national director of CS South Africa and has been in full-time ministry for most of his adult life. A visionary social entrepreneur at heart, Roy is married to Sharon with daughter Cailyn and son Nathan. When asked what his job is he will tell you its the International Froth Cultivator for Christian Surfers. If he's not answering his phone, it's likely he is in a ‘Board Meeting’ in the ocean, riding his favourite wave, Supertubes Jeffreys Bay.

Andre & Yvette Holl

Indian Ocean Regional Coordinator

Andre and Yvette Holl have lived in Mauritius for 10 years. They founded Hope House, an NGO that focuses on skills development and mentoring. They have a passion to see people of all ages, given hope and an opportunity for their futures. This is expressed through Salt Surfers, a surf program for young disadvantaged youth, a carpentry and sewing skills program, a Girls Make Waves Surf group for women, a weekly discipleship group for young people and ASA, a carpentry project in Madagascar. Further afield, they work with an orphanage in Malawi. Taking every opportunity to share the love of Jesus, every day counts. They love what they do, and count it a privilege to engage with the beautiful people of these countries. Their tribe is a crazy bunch of 4 sons, 2 daughter-in-law's, 5 grandchildren, a dog and a cat.

Gordy Webb

Pacific Regional Coordinator

Gordy has been involved in CS for 26 years at local, national and international levels. Having previously been Pacific Regional Coordinator for 6 years, Gordy has recently re-taken up the roll, sharing the nations with Nev Wells. Gordy has been doing mission trips to the Pacific Islands for the past 11 years, visiting Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tahiti. He is married to Jean and together they live in Raglan, New Zealand and have two married children, Angie and Stephen, with one grandchild and a second on the way. When he's not working Gordy can be found with family and friends or in the ocean.

Mark Sawyer-Chu

Board Member

Mark has worked 17+ years in the surf & advertising industry. He has worked for Surfline.com, Surfer Magazine, Surfing Magazine, Adaptive Surfing Magazine and several others. He also led the LA South Bay chapter of Christian Surfers USA for several years. Mark worked closely with CSUS to strengthen partnerships with Walking On Water, Hurley, Channel Islands, Dragon, SURFER, Life Rolls On, Surfrider Foundation, etc. as well as help lead the national Paddle for Daisy Merrick event. He retains his ties to the surf industry through the surf site, TheInertia.com. Mark is currently running his own action sports marketing company in California. Mark met his wife, Lydia, at the 2016 CS International Conference in Australia. They married 5 months later and now split their time between California and the Canary Islands where they have the B&B guest house, Oasis Surf House.

Eric Arakawa

Board Member

Eric lives and runs his surfboard business on the North Shore, Hawaii. He attends and serves at The Mission North Shore where he teaches the Bible to 4-6 year olds. Eric and his wife helped host the first two CS International Conferences back in 1993 & 1995. He is married to Sue with three adult children.

Nic Gilmour

Board Member

Having grown up in Western Australia, and now finding himself in North County San Diego, Nic has been a follower of Jesus for 36 years, partnered with the incredible V for 27, and dad to supa-groms Mo, Tino and Evey for enough time to know that fathering is better – and far more exacting – than he ever could've dreamed. He coaches (rugby), mentors (people who'll far exceed him), surfs (more days than not), and eats pizza (ok, too much). To his wife's dismay, he doesn't like kale. At all. Since moving to SoCal in 2013, Nic has cared for the community impact team at North Coast Calvary where he gets to spend his time strategizing and implementing global, local and citywide collaboratives. Through life, community and hard-lessons (typically involving him getting a brick to the head) he's more convinced now than ever that the only worthwhile spirituality is one with boots on, that walks.
