International Director to Transition
Our Founder and International Director, Brett Davis, has announced his intention to transition from his role at our 2016 international conference. Below is a message from Brett and our chairman of the board Marcus Judge (Spanish translation is at the bottom).

Dear CS friends,
I want to let you know about an important change coming for Christian Surfers.
I have been pioneering in Christian Surfers for 35 years. Starting as an 18-year-old with our local Cronulla mission, then at age 23 with the Australian movement, then at age 40 in 1999 with the international organisation.
Christian Surfers International is in a great position with a solid leadership team and a mature board of directors. Our tenth anniversary conference in Hawaii was outstanding in vision and unity.
As I have reflected on what Jesus has done in our movement, and the hopes we have for the future, I feel it is time for us to prepare for someone else to take on my International Director role.
I have felt like a father to Christian Surfers, but eventually, like all healthy kids, the movement must grow beyond its father figure. If we are to do that, then we need to be renewed and refreshed. Part of this is giving space for the energy that new leaders will bring.
We are in the best possible position to do this now. I feel I have taken CSI as far as I can and I also want to be young enough to be open to other roles that God may have in store for Gill and I. I have not been asked to leave, nor are there any personal conflicts or compromises that would disqualify me.
I am leaving the role, but I am not leaving Christian Surfers. I love this mission and I love the people in it. The board and I have drafted an ongoing role for me as a founder/advisor and I look forward to advocating for the new director and CS globally.
All going to plan and with God’s hand on a successor, I plan to completely relinquish my role at the 2016 international conference. Thus Christian Surfers has over three years to prepare for the change, as well as myself preparing! It will be challenging for us all, but I am convinced God birthed this mission, sustains it and will continue to do so.
I am so thankful to Jesus for saving me as an unchurched Aussie surfer. I am thankful that God connected me to an amazing family of unlikely-looking surfing missionaries. I am thankful for the platform of CS that has allowed me to dream and believe God for impossible things.
I do encourage you to continue to pray and support us through this vital phase. I am personally available to talk to any of you about this further.

Hi, I’m Marcus Judge, the chairman of the board of Christian Surfers International, and I will be leading us through the transition of a new International Director.
Christian Surfers has been blessed by God as a vehicle for showing and telling the surfing world the promise of eternal life through Jesus. The Christian Surfers story is one of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, through God’s inspiration, as they trusted in him.
Brett has been right at the front in the Christian Surfers story.
He has been active and visible in so many ways as well as consistently leading a godly life. The board is encouraged to see Brett’s deep passion for the long-term interests of the movement. We support Brett in instigating this change and agree with him that now is a good time to set it in action and welcome his ongoing input.
I want to tell you about what has been done so far and what we plan to do.
Brett mentioned that he proposes to step out of the international director role by the time of our international conference in 2016. We have agreed that we should identify his successor and have that person spend a meaningful period working alongside Brett, prior to 2016.
The board will manage this process but it will not appoint the new leader. This will be the responsibility of the CS International Council.
The board and the international leadership team prayerfully considered the challenges and opportunities of the next 10 years and out of that created a revised role description for the international director.
We are now ready to look for the successor. A committee of the CSI board will begin discussions with people who are interested in the successor role. The board will engage actively with Brett throughout the process.

Finally, I ask you to pray. Please pray for the CSI board and international leadership, for the Council and for Brett and Gill and their family. Please pray that God will direct us in this quest, and work in the heart of the person that he would have as his leader in this movement.

Quiero hacerles saber acerca de un cambio importante que viene para Christian Surfers. Yo he estado liderando Christian Surfers por 35 años. Comencé a los 18 años en nuestra misión local, en Cronulla, luego a los 23 con el movimiento australiano y, a los 40, en 1999, al nivel de la organización internacional.
Christian Surfers International está en un gran momento, con un equipo de liderazgo sólido y un maduro concejo consultivo (Board). Nuestra décima Conferencia Internacional en Hawaii fue increíble en cuanto a visión y unidad.
Como he estado reflexionando acerca de lo que Jesús ha hecho en nuestro movimiento, y las expectativas que tenemos para el futuro, siento que es tiempo para nosotros de prepararnos para que alguien más tome mi rol de Director Internacional.
Yo me siento como un padre para Christian Surfers, pero llegado el momento, como con los hijos saludables, el movimiento debe crecer más allá de la figura del padre. Si nosotros creemos que esto es correcto, entonces tendremos la necesidad de ser renovados y refrescados. Parte de este proceso es proporcionar el espacio para la energía que nuevos líderes puedan traer.
Estamos en la mejor posición posible para hacer esto. Siento que he llevado a CSI lo más lejos que he podido y, al mismo tiempo, me siento lo suficientemente joven como para estar abierto a otros posibles roles que Dios quiera para mí y para Gill. Nadie me ha pedido que salga ni hay ningún conflicto personal con nadie ni tampoco hay alguna cosa que me descalifique.
Estoy dejando el rol, pero no estoy dejando CSI. Yo amo esta misión y a la gente que está involucrada en ella. El concejo consultivo y yo hemos elaborado una descripción de un rol para mí como “fundador/consejero” y pienso continuar apoyando al nuevo director y a CS global.
En planificación con la ayuda del Señor, pienso en completar el cambio de mi rol para la Conferencia Internacional del 2016. Así, CS tendrá más de tres años para prepararse para este cambio, ¡de la misma manera que yo me preparo también! Va a ser desafiante para nosotros, pero estoy convencido de que Dios hizo nacer esta misión y que la sostendrá para que continúe siendo una bendición.
Estoy muy agradecido a Jesús por salvarme a mí, un surfer australianito que no iba a la iglesia. Estoy agradecido de que Dios me conectara a una increíble familia de inimaginables misioneros surferos. Estoy muy agradecido por CS que me ha permitido soñar y creer en Dios para cosas imposibles.

Hola, soy Marcus Judge, el president del Concejo Consultivo de Christian Surfers Internacional, y voy a liderar el proceso de transición en busca del nuevo Director Internacional.
Christian Surfers a sido bendecido por Dios como un vehículo para mostrar y decirle a la comunidad surfista mundial acerca de la promesa de vida eterna a través de Jesús. La historia de CS es una de gente ordinaria que hace cosas extraordinarias, inspirados por Dios, puesto que confían en el Señor.
Brett ha estado justo al frente de esta historia. Él ha estado activo y visible de muchas maneras diferentes, al mismo tiempo que ha liderado el movimiento de una manera dependiente de Dios e irreprensible. El Concejo Consultivo está inspirado al ver la profunda pasión de Brett sobre los intereses de largo plazo de nuestro movimiento. Apoyamos a Brett en este propósito de cambio y coincidimos con él sobre el hecho de que es un buen momento para establecer las acciones a seguir y recibir sus aportes.

El Concejo Consultivo y el Equipo de Liderazgo Internacional a considerado en oración los desafíos y oportunidades para los próximos 10 años y ha creado una descripción revisada del sol de Director Internacional.
Ahora, nos encontramos listos para encontrar al sucesor. Un comité del Concejo Consultivo va a empezar a tener conversaciones con las personas interesadas en asumir este rol. El Concejo Consultivo estará comunicado activamente con Brett durante este proceso.
