Living Water: by David Nehrig

I was driving my sweet 1991 Winnebago Warrior Class C 25-foot RV on the bumpy Baja roads headed towards the CS West Coast Cold Water Camp Out. We were within striking range of the camp spot. The Warrior had just driven home from Nicaragua so I figured she could handle a short trip to Baja. You could smell and feel the ocean breeze when she decided to stall. We were stranded on the side of the road. The caravan continued forward while the Warrior and its team waited for help. My trust had once again been broken with the old Warrior. This was not the first time this it had happened, and I am sure it will not be the last. The question resurfaced in my mind, when is it time to sell her off and get a newer one?

This made me think about the reliability of the vehicle, can I even trust her anymore to transport my family on all our adventures? I started thinking of other material things I put my trust in. The time I was surfing a rocky spot and my leash Velcro ripped off and my board floated toward the rocks. I lost trust in the Velcro. Or on that same trip I trusted the straps to hold ten boards on the top of my van. That trust was quickly lost after I heard a board under my tires. What material things of this world have you been trusting over what God has for you? Your bank account? Your car? Your surf gear? What other temporary things?

Why is it so easy to put our trust in the things of this world and so hard to trust in what really matters? God, the creator of the universe, the one who sent his only son to die for us, the one who loves us above all else, is asking for our trust. He is promising that he will be with us through our victories, our failures, and our challenging times. What holds you back from trusting God with your entire life?

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.
