Last month we had just gotten home from an epic Baja strike mission. Surfed out and salty, we were a satisfied crew. But it was a quick turnaround for David and Florida was calling for some CS meetings. In a last-minute frenzy, David had to pack and was out of the house. It wasn’t until his first surf session that he realized something wasn’t right. The holidays had just passed, is that why his suit felt so tight? Or was it the infamous quarantine pounds that snuck up in him? As he struggled with his first leg he muscled his way in. The second leg was even tougher. He thought to himself “why does my suit go up to my shins?” But there was no turning back, he was in this far, might as well keep going. As David pulled his arms through he noticed the pink flower print. And that’s when I got the call, “Sorry babe, I think I owe you a new suit!” My 6’4 husband had grabbed the suit that fits my 5’4 self and gotten it fully on, and even surfed in it!

It blows my mind that David kept pushing through and trying to get my wetsuit on. This is something as Christians we do every day. We have an ideal Christian suit we think we should fit in, yet it never really feels right. In this “Christian wetsuit” we think we can’t struggle or have past addictions. But every time we try and fit into this mould, it never feels totally right. We squeeze into it, we try to adapt to it, and we pretend like it feels right. But the reality is, it doesn’t fit because God did not create any of us to fit into a mould that isn’t what he intended for us. He created each one of us unique and distinct from one another.

Isaiah 64:8 says...We are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Just like no clay pot is the same, our potter in heaven has moulded us to be unique. Our stories and journeys are distinct to us and we were never meant to all mould into the same “Christian Suit.” Have you embraced who God has created you to be? Do you find yourself looking and yearning to be something that you are not? God wants to use your own unique story for His glory, go today and be who God created YOU to be..
