We Love Psalms

Towards the end of last year, we ran the #WeLovePsalms campaign. We wanted to know what your favourite Psalm is and why you love it. So we threw the concept out to the greater CS fam and the responses flowed in from all corners of globe.

If you’re active on social media, you probs came across many of these entries in your IG feed, if you don’t, no worries, we have gathered our fave entries below.

May they be an absolute blessing to you.

God bless you.

"I Love Psalm 27 as this verse is such a great reminder that God is my salvation and I don’t need to be afraid of things. I don’t need to be afraid of big waves, people, uncertainty, the enemy or even death. I know and have that clear assurance that through believing that Jesus has taken our sins on the cross - I now know that even when bad things happen or trails or one day finish my time here in earth il be with the Father in heaven. As it says "The Lord is my salvation whom shall I fear." So I love coming back to this verse as a good reminder that I shouldn’t be afraid." #WELOVEPSALMS

“The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

I have such a vivid emotional connection with this Psalm. I experienced Jesus speaking directly to me through these words of His when I was going through one of the heaviest seasons of my life. I was brokenhearted and crushed in spirit, so much so that I felt like giving up on life and living.

Then I read this verse…
“The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.”

I can’t tell you how much comfort, love, and hope flooded into my heart at that moment. It felt like an ocean of tears was falling down my face.
Just knowing that he was near to me at a time when it really didn’t feel like it and that this mighty God was going to do a mighty work in my life, even though I had failed so badly, filled my heart with so much hope, joy, and faith that night.

Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

One of the psalms that has been the most on my heart during these difficult months has been Psalms 46:10. The Lord is telling us to stop toiling! Too many of our worries and anxieties stem from the deep root of thinking that we must fix everything, that it is our duty to appease whatever chaos there is in our life. And it is not like that. God is rebuking our restlessness, our impatience because there are some things (all of them, actually) – like this global pandemic - that we cannot control. We do not know what will happen. However, we know something deeper and more solid as a rock: We know God! "Knowing" God means acknowledging and admitting that He is truly God above all things! There is something deeper than the chaos and fear that rages in our world: we know Him! There will be difficult times; we can be sure of this. We live in a fallen and sinful world. We are now in the middle of a difficult test. However, God has not left us alone. He is speaking deeply to us in Psalm 46. It reminds us of what is real and true.

“What is your reaction when you blow it? Make excuses? Blame someone else? Be crushed with shame? Minimise it? Psalm 32 is an honest talk with God by David. David says he initially held out, refused to admit it and suffered that inner torment that even manifested itself in physical illness. We can’t pretend our sin doesn’t affect us, it eats away at our soul and even our body. He says he finally confessed and what a relief when he finds that God forgives and restores. Then God says to David (and to us all) vs 8-9 “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.” and not only that, he promises to also "advise you and watch over you”. Imagine the worlds best surf coach tracking with you to empower you to be the best surfer you could possibly be! God also says don’t learn the hard way “Do not be a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” The final word from David when he finally gets it is “Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust in the lord”.

Imagine being surrounded by the unfailing love of God? What security is there? What risks would you take? How free would that be? So don’t hold out. Willingly surrender your sin, your will, your heart to God - he has unfailing love for you waiting.

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.

Hi, my name is Willemijn from CS Holland.
I love the words of this psalm! As believers we have the privilege of knowing Gods direction for our lives. We might sometimes not see it, but He is working. It gives me a lot of rest knowing that He has the overview of every step that I take. I need to stays close to the word and the heart of the Father. He will be faithful to show us the way and He is always there to deliver the next bit of a lamplight we need for walking steadily in His direction

‭‭Psalm 127:1
Unless the LORD builds the house,
its builder's labour in vain.

This is my Psalm for the year. Sometimes we get so busy striving and planning, that we forget to ask if what we’re labouring away at is God‘s will. This is a reminder to slow down and wait for God to guide us before we fill up our days with meaningless busyness.

On the flip side, it also reminds us that if the Lord is 'building the house' anything is possible, regardless of talent, finances, circumstances...if it’s the Lord‘s will, nothing is impossible!
