Living Water by David Nehrig

Shortboard or longboard? Pointbreak or beach break? Influencer or no social media?  Travel or stay home and make money?

We have to answer questions every day, but have you ever been asked a seriously difficult question?

We were in El Salvador on a CS Surf and Serve a couple weeks ago and were put in a position where we had to ask people we were ministering to a super heavy question; one of the days on the trip we were able to provide water filters for 8 different families. Part of the process was we had to install the filters and teach them how to use and maintain it so it could last ten years. After the installation, we were able to share the Gospel using the water filter. We shared how our lives are like the dirty water we drew from the river. Like this water filter, God can purify us. We then asked the question, if you died tonight where would you spend eternity? This was not an easy question to ask so directly. Our team felt challenged but the results were incredible. I was able to watch my team lead two people into a relationship with Jesus.

As we drove around El Salvador to ministry sites, epic right point breaks, and local CS chapters, we had plenty of van time to ask the hard questions and dive deep. We asked each other questions that we are usually too scared to ask. This became some of my favorite times on the trip. We were challenged and stretched through the questions and conversations.

God loves our questions and when we seek him. Matthew 7:7 says “ask and it will be given to you seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.” Sometimes it feels like we need to have all the answers before we come to the cross. We feel like we need to have it all figured out.

There are so many things that we may not ever have the answers to. But God challenges us to keep seeking, to keep knocking. Do not be scared to ask your friends the toughest of questions. Don’t be scared to get out of your comfort zone and ask God to reveal to you the questions in your heart. Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
