Living Water by Joseph McCroskey
The word etiquette seems too hoity toity to be used by surfers, right? We’re not typically the ones lifting our pinkie while drinking our tea or coffee. But, even if that word isn’t regularly on your lips, you know and follow the rules and expect others to abide by them too: Don’t snake; don’t wave-hog; keep your claims to a minimum; etc.
The word religion is often berated among believers as unbefitting for our tribe, but Jesus’ brother James wasn’t hesitant to use it. “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” (James 1:27)
Our association with CS is one way we can receive encouragement to be biblically religious. We have opportunities to together serve people locally and abroad. Our relationships with fellow Christians who surf inspire us to keep refusing the corruption of the world.
So, whether or not you choose to use the words etiquette regarding surfing or religion regarding faith, you are well aware of what’s expected of you in the water and everywhere else. In what ways does your CS chapter help you get more of that pure and genuine religion?
