Living Water by Leason Dancaescu
Surfing on the Gulf Coast can be a challenge, to put it lightly. We are home to weeks of long flat spells followed by the much anticipated 6 hour swell. Fall to spring is our ‘surf season’ as strong on-shores give us victory at sea conditions followed by cold fronts rolling through producing off-shores and clean surf. The problem is, those off-shores are usually 15+ mph quickly knocking the size down and flattening it in a few hours. When it's good, you better be on it and prepared, because you don't know when the next chance to surf might be.
Because of the unpredictable nature of our waves, we have to keep ourselves sharp for those windows of waves. We don't have the opportunity to surf every day and if we don’t stay in surf shape, we can find ourselves missing out on the best day of the year. The last thing you want is noodle arms after a 30 min session when it's 4-6 and off-shore. So we train in the downtime, surf-skate and indo board to keep our balance up and body weight exercises to keep arm strength up are necessities. We work in the lean times, even if we don't feel like it, to make sure we are sharp when that opportunity finally comes to our shores.
We keep our surf muscles sharp for any and every opportunity but what about our ‘God’ muscles? Are you keeping the Word of God in your heart, studying it and furthering your understanding, even when you don't ‘feel’ like it? Are you staying sharp in your ability to spread God's word to those who have yet to receive him or to encourage a brother in their faith walk? Second Timothy 4:2 reminds us to “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage - with great patience and careful instruction.” Read God's word every day, until it dwells in you and permeates your being. Be prepared for the next opportunity, stay sharp, you might be the only glimpse of Jesus someone sees today.
