Abide in Christ
How important is it to abide in Christ!? In the gospel of John, Jesus said, “…apart from me you can do nothing. “ In other words, without being grafted into the vine, we can’t do any good. It is from that place of being rooted in Christ - that we begin to impact the world around us. In John 4 Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Not only will we never thirst again but when we are rooted in Christ it will become a life-giving force bringing hope, life, and joy around us. Wow! Where do we sign up!?
Here are some practical steps to abide in Him - so that your life will, like Jesus said, “…become a spring welling up to eternal life.” Can I get an amen!?
01 | Commit to reading your Bible Daily.
The biblical author John Mark Comer penned the following words in his book titled.’The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry’: What you give your attention to is the person you become. Put another way: the mind is the portal to the soul, and what you fill your mind with will shape the trajectory of your character. In the end, your life is no more than the sum of what you gave your attention to. That bodes well for those apprentices of Jesus who give the bulk of their attention to Him and to all that is good, beautiful, and true in His world.
Commit to meditating on God’s word so that you may become more like Him.
02 | Commit to joining a congregation.
There are many reasons to join a church congregation of like-minded believers. One of the reasons Jesus died on the cross was to establish His church. It was the church that arose from Jesus’ death and resurrection. In Romans 12 the apostle Paul writes, "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." - As followers of Christ it is our duty to be part of a congregation for the service we can be to that congregation, but also so that we can remain accountable, that we may be challenged to grow spiritually and for guidance and support from those who are stronger in their faith.

03 | Commit to repentance.
Repentance holds a central and crucial role in the Christian faith. It is a fundamental concept that carries deep spiritual significance and transformative power. The book of Samuel follows the narrative of Israel’s most famous king, David. Now David was by no means perfect, but the Bible mentions how David was a man after God’s own heart. This is clearly seen in David’s repentance. When David is confronted with his sin, he offers heartfelt repentance, a remorse for action and not simply consequence. It is one of the defining factors that made David’s kingship so successful… his ability to repent.
Everyone sins. But it is in repentance that we find God’s mercy and forgiveness.
04 | Commit to Prayer
Developing a consistent prayer life is essential for abiding in Christ. Make prayer a daily habit, not only presenting your requests but also listening for God's guidance. Engage in honest and open communication with Him, fostering a sense of communion. As Jesus withdrew to solitary places to pray, we too can find solace and connection through intentional prayer.
