YOUR will be done.

There's this story in 2 Kings about king Hezekiah. One day the prophet Isaiah comes to visit the king who is terribly ill and says it's time to get your affairs in order because God is calling you home. Hezekiah, filled with sadness cries out to God pleading with God to remember his faithfulness.

Isaiah returns and says God has heard your cry. You will be healed in three days and God will add 15 years to your life.

During those 15 years, Hezekiah had a son named Manasseh. Now Manasseh was one of the worst kings Judah ever had.

He rebuilt the pagan shrines his father destroyed.

He built pagan alters IN THE LORDS TEMPLE!

He practiced sorcery & divination

AND! burnt his son alive in the fire to the gods.

Manasseh's actions single handedly steered a whole nation away from God towards idolatry.

Crazy to think that if Hezekiah hadn't cried out to the Lord the evil reign of Manasseh would've never been.

Got me thinking about how important it is to pray for what God wants and not what I want.

When teaching the disciples how to pray, Jesus said: Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

YOUR will be done.

Because God knows our hearts are deceitful above all else. We can so easily deceive ourselves into believing our plans are God's plans. But actually they're really just what we want.

I can't help but think how many times I've prayed for things outside of God's will to my own detriment.

Thankfully we serve a gracious God.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
