The Start of CS Korea!

We are VERY excited to announce the start of Christian Surfers Korea! Can I get a Hallelujah! The vision that International Director, Roy Harley outlined for 2030 was to see 100 new nations with a 1000 new local missions added to Christian Surfers so that more surfers would have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus.

The first CS Korea mission is located in Yang Yang with the possibility of four more missions.

Enjoy a little interview with CS Korea leader, Jeremy Yoon.

What did you do for the launch of Christian Surfers Korea?

The launch was held in two parts.  First, there was a national gathering of all regional leaders, their families and supporters at a mountain lodge about 40 minutes drive from Jukdo beach, Yang Yang.  Being at the peak of the summer vacation season, it seemed almost impossible that we would find an accommodation that would host the twenty of us.  However, He moved the heart of one of the elders attending a local church who owned this beautiful mountain lodge and hosted us all free of charge. What’s more, one supporter who was traveling overseas at the time donated USD1,000 which paid for the food and other expenses, meaning the gathering was put on without costing a cent to the leaders. What a great start to the launch. Praise the Lord, God is so faithful!

Not everyone knew each other so we started the gathering by getting to know each other, our life and faith journeys, and why we felt we were called to serve CS Korea.  Everyone clicked really quickly!  Then we spent the entire evening learning the history of CS, how it all started and its mission statement and ministries around the world.  We also shared our visions for CS Korea, planned ahead and prayed over what is to come.  All of this was of course powered by yummy Korean BBQ and Kimchi for dinner!

The second part of the launch was held the next day at Korea’s only surf training centre at Jukdo beach, Yang Yang. Rev. Ha from Vision Church drove down from Seoul to bless the worship service and Jukdo beach, and to officially mark the beginning of CS Korea.  Jukdo beach is the most well-known surf beach in Korea.  Located three hours from the capital city Seoul, tens of thousands of surfers and surfers-to-be flock to this beach during summer.  The worship service was also attended by a local representative from a Christian broadcasting station, as well as a couple of surf school owners who have faithfully supported the surf ministry in Korea years before the Korean lunch. The worship service ended by commissioning and praying for five regional leaders, with Jeremy Yoon overseeing them as the National Coordinator.  Their names and regions are:

A.     Ji-Hwan Kim: Yang Yang

B.      Hee-Bum Kim: Manlipo

C.     Sung-Min Park: Busan

D.     Jae-Hyun Kim: Jeju Island

E.      Ji-Hoon Yoon:  Wave Park (Asia’s biggest surf park)

Any cool testimonies from the weekend or testimonies from the new local mission launched at Yang Yang?

Since the launch, the regional leaders have all been very busy in creating opportunities to connect Christian surfers and introducing CS’s core values to them.  CS Busan and Jeju have had 3-4 surf sessions already, encouraging Christians to learn to surf, and educating and disciplining them.   We are also very excited to see three surfers from CS Manlipo attend surf coach training.
