The God of Your Time

My son (Pascal) is now on the verge of two years old. 20 Months. He’s added a few words to his rather slender vocabulary but his most abused two words remain ‘papa’ and ‘mama’. He says them all day. Unashamedly. The ratio of mama’s to papa’s uttered fall well in favour of mama. Maybe like seven mamas to one papa. Fascinatingly, the more quality time I spend with Pascal the more even that ratio becomes.

I was recently faced with a couple of challenging work scenarios to wrangle my way through. And I became self reflective. Asking ‘God what do you want for me?” - “Is this where you want me to even be?” And I just felt like in that moment God said to me, “I want your time.”

I love the simplicity of the response. Straightforward while addressing the root issue.

Time.

God didn’t require me to make any big decisions. Leave a job or revolutionise my life. God simply wanted my time. Because it’s from that intimate place with the Father that he can begin to direct your steps. Small, daily decisions that overtime, lead to a completely different place.

I can’t help but think how similar it is with my son. Time with him opens up our communication.

We recently had the opportunity to lead a team of surfers to surf Donkey Bay in Namibia. While we were there, we organised an interview with Brett Barely. I asked him what advice he would give to aspiring young Christian surfers, and he said, “Make the time to spend time with Him in the mornings.” - How good is God. To remind me on the beach at Skeleton Bay of what he dropped in my heart weeks earlier.

It’s in dedicating time with God - that we can live fruitful lives. Without that, we are just living out our own ideas.

Jesus said. “He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5.

Without me. You can do. Nothing.

Prioritise time in the Father’s presence.
