Living Water by Larry Garret

People all over the world want to place a label on you. There are jokes about it on sitcoms and reality TV shows. One show even used a person's Starbucks’ order to identify with. In the surfing world, it is no different. Are you a shortboarder? Longboarder? SUP’er? Kit Boarder? You get the point... It all comes down to the fact that people want to know and be known.

A good question to ask is "What are you known for?"  What have you made a name for yourself by doing and being? The Bible says that you will know what a person is about by listening to them and hearing what they talk about the most. "The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks." Luke 6:45.

If we have Jesus in our hearts and He is the most important thing in our lives then we will talk about Him the most. It makes sense. We can call ourselves Christian Surfers all we want but if we are living life without Christ in us then we are just surfers. No one says, "If it walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck then it might be a surfer.

In short, make sure that the most important thing in your life is Jesus, and let that define everything you do. So no longer am I just a guy or girl who works in a surf shop but now I am the living example of Jesus to everyone I come in contact within the surf shop. I am no longer just a father but now I am the living example of Jesus to my children in and outside of my home. I don't just build houses for a living and surf on my free time because now I am defined by my relationship with Jesus and take on His life as my own.

I leave you with these identity defining words from the apostle Peter as he says, "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a Holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9.
