Vocation Vs. Calling
There this Psalm that God has dropped on my heart recently: Psalm 84:10
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
In secular society, vocation plays an important role. Whether you like it or not people identify you with what you do. The role you play in society. And that’s why I LOVE how the psalmist brings up vocation. That he’d rather be a ‘doorkeeper’ in the house of the Lord then dwell in the tents of the wicked.
The question is, where does your vocation lead? Does it lead you to living a Godly, righteous, God-centerd life? Or a life of strife. Of bitterness. And malice?
The Psalmist is saying, get your priorities straight! Desire God’s presence above the importance of vocation. If it means you end up a street sweeper and live righteously in heart, soul and mind. Then give it all up to live in His presence.
