Living Water by Jacob Galura

So I just got home about a week ago from one of the craziest trips in my short life. The last few days of the trip were spent in Baja for the Coldwater Campout. This was my first time at this particular spot and really had no idea what to expect, coming out from Florida I would have been stoked on head high fun surf. Well we got it bigger, much bigger.

The first day when we rolled into camp we were greeted with swell lines you could see from the road in, it wasn't until we got into camp we realized what we were in for. Stacked sets in the well overhead to occasional double overhead range were hitting the point and closing out the rest of the bay. After a long road trip with not much water time I decided to not paddle out. The next day the swell was supposed to drop, it did but not by much, the bigger sets were still enough to send you scrambling. The paddle out was the hardest part, if you didn't time it right you were really in for it. I did not time it right. Twenty minutes later and I'm sitting in the lineup in between sets thinking I'm in a good spot, then I saw it. A solid wall of cold water stretching from the rocks to the end of the bay and looking like it's about to run me over. The moment before this felt like I had made it and had time to breathe. This year has definitely felt like that session where as soon as you make it through one challenge, another one pops up and cleans you up.

Today was one of those days for me, I was thinking that 2020 is pretty much done and I had dodged all the clean up sets that came at us this year. Instead I'll be ending the year in true 2020 fashion with ten days of quarantine. Just when we think we're in the clear, life has a way of reminding us how little control we have. The only option at that point is prayer. Same goes for when you're doing donuts in the whitewater after not duck diving deep enough, all you can do is hold on tight and talk to God.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1Thess. 5:16
