Lessons from the book of JOB

The Story of Job goes something like this: Satan and the angels come before GOD and GOD says to Satan have you considered my servant Job - he is a man above repoire, righteous, he fears God and shuns evil. Satan responds yes but he’s like that for a reason - because you have put a hedge of protection around him and blessed him. Let me have at him - and he’ll surely curse you to your face. And so the wager begins - God gives Satan permission to torture Job to prove that Job won’t curse God even though hard times.

Lesson 4: God can Feel Distant in Your Tragedy:

When you’re facing tragedy, God can feel distant. This distance is clearly expressed in Job 23 vs 3 where Job describes how he’s desperately looking for the Creator of the universe:

If only I knew where to find God,

vs 8

I go east, but he is not there.

I go west, but I cannot find him.

I do not see him in the north, for he

is hidden.

I look to the south, but he is concealed.

It’s easy to feel like God is close by when things are going your way. When work is pouring in when you’re getting a new car when people respect and love you. But often God can feel distant in your tragedy. And it’s important that we continue to cry out to God through the tragedy. Just like Job. Job continued to search for God when everything had been taken away from him.
